Creating an iconic portrait of any subject – one that embodies that subject’s strongest features while keeping everything else incredibly simple – is one of the most deceptively difficult tasks an artist can ever undertake. As for rhinos, I submit my personal favorite portrait. Of course, no portrait of a rhino is complete without prominently featuring their formidable horns. For this exposure, there was something about the light catching the profile of the horns among the blowing grasses, that speaks to the perpetual readiness and swordlike quality of these protective weapons.
