Death Valley National Park, California
Tennessee State Museum
When someone mentions the Mojave Desert or Death Valley we think of one of the hottest and lowest points in the world. However, few people are aware that Death Valley is also the largest National Park in the lower 48 States— it is 30% larger than Yellowstone. In that vast landscape there are mountains that reach over 11,000 feet in elevation, towering canyons, and vast pockets of sand dunes including the tallest on the North American continent. While exploring a pocket of remote dunes, I captured this image with the soft light of mid-morning sweeping across their towering face. The curvy lines, soft palette, and abstract composition combine to create an air of sensuality.
