Babcock State Park, WV
Appalachia once had thousands of mills that dotted the landscape, yet today most have been lost to time. Perhaps that is why this picturesque mill, preserved by the State Park service of West Virginia, has become a place of pilgrimage for visitors to Appalachia and one of the most photographed icons of our region. I captured this exposure on my third visit to this location over a five year period — finally catching a moment when the fall color, soft light, and calm waters combined to reveal this iconic landmark in the tranquil beauty of a classic autumn afternoon.
