Lone Tree Series™ | Great Smoky Mountains National Park, TN/NC
Tennessee State Museum
There are few things in nature I find more fascinating than a lone tree — they each have such personalities that subtly define their environment in such a captivating way. In my Lone Tree Series™, I endeavor to pay tribute to these natural monuments of tenacity.
I have visited this particular lone tree in Cades Cove dozens of times over the years, but this exposure continues to stands out as my favorite. As the clouds slowly arched above the tree, I decided to place the setting sun behind – or, rather, beyond – the dense branches of the tree. In doing so, this exposure conveys a sense calm, peace, and curiosity. For some reason, this image inspires me to think about what’s possible, what’s beyond.
