Abstract Africa Series | Amboseli National Park, Kenya

As the name suggests, my Abstract Africa series explores the icons of safari in a conceptual way. To capture this series, I utilize slow shutter speeds while simultaneously overexposing each frame. This combination eliminates many of the distracting details of the scene and allows the viewer to get lost in the animal’s movement.

Elemotion (Ele- as in elephant / -motion as in the motion of the elephants).

Elephants move in such unique ways — when they move as a group, their motions are both uniform and somewhat messy. This movement is clearly depicted within this small group of females that have stepped away from the larger heard. Even though they are moving together, they are each bustling about in their own individual way. Elemotion hints at the tight bonds that members of the herd share as well as their individual personalities.
