Wildlife has a remarkable way of finding the best seat in the house. This polar bear settled into a small opening in the tundra just as the late-day sun dropped behind her. What appears dark and tangled around her are the stems and trunks of the tundra vegetation, while the backlight catches only their outermost tips, which appear as little points of light throughout the scene.
That same light traces the edge of her fur, creating a luminous ring around her profile and visually separating her from the darkness. I loved the way the entire scene seemed to glow around her while she remained completely at ease in the middle of it all. For a few fleeting moments, nature had created its own little Light Lounge—and she had found the best seat.
