The Perspective Series™ | Jasper National Park, Alberta, Canada
Images like this stand out among my personal favorites. They are a result of an incalculable blend of exploration, serendipity, and my own artistic vision. You see, I did not set out to capture ducks in the fog this morning, and frankly I’d never really considered trying. Instead, I was quietly hiking along the lake shore, totally enveloped in the fog, and intently listening for the moose which are common in the area. Suddenly, I heard a duck call out – it sounded like I was right on top of him. Glancing up, the fog was slowly blowing away to revel a whole flock of ducks just a few meters offshore. They were so close I thought for sure that they would fly away. I froze, slowly sat up my camera, and started capturing exposures when suddenly the wind shifted and the entire flock disappeared once again in the looming fog. I’m sure the ducks were just as surprised by my presence as I was by theirs, and I could hear them slowly moving deeper into the fog, away from the shore. As I continued down the shoreline, I smiled at the serendipitous moment I’d just witnessed, and knew I’d just unexpectedly captured a new favorite image.
